What is the Occupational Health and Safety Code?

The OHS code was set in place and designed to create healthier and safer work environments. This code sets the minimum safety standard for all of Alberta’s workplaces. These standards aid in eliminating reactive safety and in turn promote proactive safety.

Every year, Alberta Jobs, Skills, Training, and Labour select employers for specific inspections. Effective in 2021, proactive strategic programs will use the OHS code to focus education and inspection efforts towards employers who can most benefit from special assistance in meeting their obligations to provide safe and healthy work sites.
